CNBC Autocar Auto Awards 2006
In keeping with our focus on innovation in the automotive industry and its contribution to the growth and industrial and consumer dynamism of the country, we took another step ahead with the 5th edition of our prestigious awards in this sector - the CNBC Autocar Auto Awards 2006. The latest edition saw the prestigious Car of the Year (COTY) Award rubbing shoulders with the equally significant Two-Wheeler of the Year Award and the Special Awards for the Ancillary Industry.

Maruti Swift was adjudged the 'Car of the Year' among heavy weight contenders like Hyundai - Sonata Embera, Hyundai - Tucson, Ford - Fiesta, Toyota - Innova and Skoda Auto - Laura. The most prestigious of the Auto Awards, the 'Car of the Year' Awards put to test the latest and hottest cars in India to arrive at a car that satisfies all customers needs.
 All new cars in the twelve months prior to Dec 31, 2005 were eligible for the award
 With nine new bikes launched last year making the buyer's choice a tough one to make, the 'Bike  of the Year' award helped ease the task of choosing the right bike. Leading in the pack of Bikes  was TVS Apache who bagged the 'Bike of the Year' amongst stiff competition from Hero  Honda's - Achiever, Super Splendor, Pleasure, Bajaj Auto's - Avenger, Wave, LML's -CRD 100 and  Kinetic's 4S scooter.
Other winners at the fifth CNBC-TV18 Autocar Auto Awards included:

  • Best Design and Styling - Maruti Swift
  • Best Value for Money Car - Maruti Swift
  • Most Technologically Advanced Car - Skoda Laura
  • Manufacturer of The Year - Honda India
  • Best Variant of the Year - Skoda Superb Diesel
  • Import Car of the Year- Audi A6
  • Component Manufacturer of the Year - Indo Schottle Auto Parts Pvt. Ltd.
  • Car Ad of the year and Viewers' Choice of the Year - Maruti Swift
  • Storyboard Best Auto Commercial - Toyota Innova
  •  Aiming at providing informative, entertaining and valuable information, the CNBC-TV18 Autocar  Auto Awards witnessed top cars being put through the ultimate test and evaluated by a panel of  experts like Dilip Chhabria, India's leading auto stylist and designer, Hormazd Sorabjee, Editor,  Autocar India, Naren Kumar, National Rally Champion and Asia Pacific Rally Championship  driver, Rajeev Khanna, Former Rally Champion, Shapur Kotwal, Associate Editor, Autocar India,  Manvendra Singh, Auto Historian and Renuka Kirpalani, Former Rally Champion and Host,  Speed Auto Show.

     The CNBC-TV18 Autocar Auto Awards, ratified and validated by Ernst & Young, placed strictest adherence on the eligibility criteria, so as to minimize any scope for dilution or discrepancy in the evaluation process. The Jury ranked the contestants based on Fitness for purpose, Relevance to the Indian market, Value for money, Design and Styling, Interiors, Engine, Gearbox, Performance, Ride, Handling, brakes, Driving pleasure, Fuel efficiency and Ownership experience.
